What’s the Big Deal with Collagen Anyway
I didn’t learn about collagen until my mid 20s. It was this thing my mom told me about and said I need to take it to stay young LOL. Well, little did I know the importance of collagen.
Collagen is the most abundant protein in your body. It is found in your skin, bones, muscles and tendons. Collagen provides strength and structure within your body and plays a HUGE part in holding your body cell’s together.
Collagen also provides strength and elasticity to your skin. The older you get, the less collagen you produce. Of course the older we get the more fragile we become!!
Now how does collagen affect your scalp you ask?? Collagen is the primary component of the skin, which contains hair follicles and if you don’t have proper collagen on the skin then what’s holding your hair in place?
Collagen contains amino acids : your body uses several amino acids to build keratin and your hair is made up of the Protein Keratin.
Helps damaged hair follicles
May Prevent Hair Thinning - there isn’t too much research on there has been direct results in collagen and hair growth
Now that all sounds great but why does collagen decrease
Hormonal changes due to pregnancy or menopause
Stress, diet, smoking
AGING..obviously
Too little of Vitamin C
Too much sun exposure, the Ultraviolet rays can breakdown the collagen in the skin, although Vitamin D is needed too much is also bad- read my last articles on Solutions to a Healthy Scalp to learn about Vitamin D and the importance
If you can get started with collagen then hopefully you will never age…just kidding we all are going to age but hoping this reminds you to take care of yourself before it’s too late!
As always reach out with any questions~
