Tips, Tricks + Tools For Healthy Hair Growth
When you do research what’s the first thing you do? Go on Google, right? Just the other day I typed in “Does kibble size matter for my large breed dog” and of course I get hundreds of different articles, post, videos and images. I have 2 St.Berdoodles and I search all sorts of things LOL. I instantly get overwhelmed and try to look at each article one by one.
Then it dawned on me, I’m sure there are many people who want to grow healthy hair and don’t know where to start. Soooo I decided to put this little blog together of some tips, tricks and tools I use for my hair <3
Of course this is just a list of things that has worked for me and other women since I started the business in 2022, so please take it as a suggestion and not a must! You can learn why I started the business in my other blog post - I Broke My Ankle - Now what?
Vitamins/Supplements:
Vitamin D, Vitamin C and Iron!! Okay so long story short I went to the doctors and they took some of my blood ( not fun -_-) and they told me I was deficient in Vitamin D! I thought to myself how is this possible? I eat healthy, I eat yogurt, salmon, exercise regularly and overall am in the sun everyday. Fun fact majority of woman are low in Vitamin D and usually have to take supplements to provide sufficient vitamins to the body. I have been taking supplements for 4 months and what a change. My hair feels thicker, I feel less anxious and overall good. You can find vitamin D in fish and milk.
Vitamin C is important because it helps your body absorb Vitamin D and Iron more efficiently.
Iron helps produce hemoglobin, a protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen to hair follicles and promotes hair growth. You can also find Iron in spinach, peas and lean proteins.
Be sure to do your research on vitamins and listen to your body. If you feel as though the vitamins are making your belly hurt or making you feel not right stop taking them. You need to make sure you take the sufficient dosage and the kind that works for you. Be patient when researching vitamins because there are so many options to choose from and different price points.
Drink your collagen peptides - I put unflavored collagen in my milk, froth it and put it in my coffee. You can read the importance of collagen on my other blog post.
Eat your protein! The recommended range of protein intake is between 0.8 g/kg to 1.8 g/kg of your body weight. Hair follicles are made up predominantly of keratin protein and 20% of protein intake is used to replace the skin! A low intake of protein can lead to thin, brittle hair and slow hair growth as the body lacks amino acids to replace healthy hair. Lastly, when not enough protein is being consumed the body prioritizes other body function such as muscle function, energy and hormones which then leaves behind hair growth.
To do’s:
Change your pillow case AT LEAST once a week! Also get a Silk Pillow Case, if you can. Your hair & face will thank you!
Massage your scalp everyday to increase blood circulation for at least 5 - 10 minutes.
Wash your brush monthly and remove all the build up on your brush!
Deep condition your hair once to twice a month with a hair mask.
Oil and massage your scalp once a month with Sweet Organic Almond Oil, Rosemary Oil or Coconut Oil - be sure to wash your hair a minimum of 3 times after you use oil because if you don’t you will have greasy hair for the rest of the day.
My favorite spray that I use and use on my clients is the Davines OI All In One Milk leave in conditioner spray that is also a heat protective!
Double or triple wash your hair with shampoo on hair wash day and make sure you massage your scalp when washing your hair with your finger tips not nails.
Avoid putting your hair in a tight bun everyday - it is best to do it once in awhile
Eat salmon, fish, trout of anything that has omega-3
Try to alternate a moisturizing shampoo and clarifying shampoo when its hair wash day to help balance out your pH Balance and not over moisturize or dehydrate your scalp - you can read more about pH balance here.
Okay I know this is a lot of information and granted you don’t have to do every single one but it is a good step forward to seeing what works for you and what doesn’t. Try doing this and let me know how it goes at danea@ellxi.com! Also feel free to Book a Hair Wash with me. Until next time <3
